English and Humanities
This program blends literary analysis, historical inquiry, and skill-based writing instruction to cultivate critical thinkers, articulate communicators, and empathetic global citizens. The English program invites students to read deeply, think expansively, and write with purpose. These courses ask students to examine how language shapes and reflects the human experience, to grapple with moral questions, and to illuminate social and historical contexts. Close reading, discussion, and performance build interpretive sophistication, while writing projects strengthen clarity, voice, and argumentation. Sample courses include American Literature in the 20th Century, Great Speeches, Ethics and Citizenship, and Origins, Injustice, and Moral Reckoning in Literature, as well as courses on judicial decisions, persuasive writing, memoir, and journalistic writing. With dynamic and rigorous classes for students from 6th grade through the program, the curriculum fosters the analytical rigor and linguistic fluency that students need to effectively communicate.
Math
This dynamic, project-based mathematics program guides students from foundational fluency to advanced problem-solving, blending conceptual understanding with real-world application at every stage. Beginning with a focus on numerical versatility in 6th grade, students master fractions, decimals, percentages, exponents, negative numbers, coordinate geometry, and data analysis through interactive games and creative projects. In 7th grade, they transition into algebraic thinking with ratios, proportions, equations, inequalities, and introductory geometry, applying skills to authentic tasks like the Dear Data Project and city design challenges. Algebra 1 deepens their understanding of linear and quadratic functions, systems, polynomials, and modeling, while Geometry builds precision, logical reasoning, and spatial analysis through proof, transformations, and applied design projects. In Algebra 2, students extend their knowledge to polynomials, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometry, sequences, probability, and statistics, using these tools to analyze complex problems and develop mathematical models. Throughout the program, students work collaboratively, engage in meaningful inquiry, and create a portfolio of projects that demonstrate not only mastery of core skills but also the creativity, persistence, and critical thinking needed for higher-level mathematics and life beyond the classroom.
Science
Our science curriculum is designed around the conviction that students learn best when they are active participants in the process of discovery. Through a catalog of courses including life science, human biology, physics, and astronomy, students engage in inquiry-based learning that blends conceptual understanding with hands-on experimentation, modeling, simulations, and real-world problem solving. They are encouraged to ask their own questions, investigate phenomena, and apply scientific principles across disciplines, reflecting the interconnected nature of the sciences. The program fosters scientific literacy by guiding students in reading scientific texts, interpreting data, and evaluating sources, while also developing their ability to communicate ideas through writing, presentations, debates, and multimedia projects. By moving between the smallest building blocks of life and the vast structures of the universe, students emerge from the program with a deep and connected understanding of science, the ability to think critically about evidence, and the creativity to apply their knowledge to new challenges.
Test Prep, Essay Writing, Admissions Support
Whether you are a high school student determined to earn a spot at your reach college, or an 8th grader in the city hoping to land a highly-coveted high school offer, learning to master tests (including the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, ISEE, SSAT) can give you the skills and strategies to excel on exam day- and prepare you to excel once you get to your dream school. Done right, test prep can fortify your knowledge, make you more efficient, and give you a strategic framework you can apply in other contexts. With a decade-long proven track record in individual and group test prep, we can help you understand the patterns that govern tests —and how to make them work for you.
Similarly, a compelling, well-written personal statement (or equally important supplemental essay) can not only put your dream school within reach, but the process can be a potent opportunity for reflection- clarifying what experiences have shaped you, how your journey thus far informs your future goals. In an intentional and thorough essay-crafting process, you will not hone your writing skills, but craft a personal statement that stands out from the crowd because it is uniquely yours.
