THERESA O’NEILL WALSH

Theresa O’Neill Walsh is the founder and director of The Brooklyn Middle School Collective, now in its 7th year.  With a BA in Theatre from UCLA and an MA in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, Theresa specializes in facilitating creative, rigorous, and personalized learning experiences for 5th- 12th grade students.   

In addition, Theresa is currently an instructor at The School of the New York Times, where she co-teaches courses ranging from creative writing to investigative journalism with notable authors, including Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Brian Rosenthal.  

Theresa also participated in the Literacy Unbound Project at Teachers College, which seeks to “unbind traditional approaches to the teaching of reading and writing, troubling the divide between critical and creative thinking, demonstrating that intellectual rigor ultimately requires both.” Theresa draws on her background as a theatre actor and visual artist to invigorate the learning process with a project-based approach to learning. 

Theresa is a certified teacher in New York.
